Beginner standard

On graduating with [X level] from the SEJ Academy, students will have:

  • Overview of SEO

    Knowledge and understanding of the key areas of SEO, the relationships between them and their application.

  • Technical skills

    Demonstrated competence within the range of technical SEO skills (e.g. XML site map) and more generic skills (e.g. critical thinking and storytelling).

  • Guided learning

    A view of SEO which is predominantly influenced by guided learning with a limited critical perspective.

Advanced standard

On graduating at intermediate and advanced level from the SEJ Academy, students will:

  • have a wide knowledge and understanding of the broad range of areas in SEO and the detailed relationships between these and their application to practice;

  • consistently demonstrate a command of technical skills as well as proficiency in generic skills and attributes;

  • have a view of SEO which is influenced by a wide range of learning sources, based on a proactive and independent approach to learning;

  • be distinguished from the threshold category by their enhanced capacity to develop and apply their own perspectives to their studies, to deal with uncertainty and complexity, to explore alternative solutions, to demonstrate critical evaluation and to integrate theory and practice in a wide range of situations, and;

  • contribute to the future of thought leadership and development in this ever-changing field of digital marketing.

Teaching methods

SEJ teaching methods and situations are appropriate and supportive, inclusive in design and engage students.

They take account of the diverse learning and teaching cultures that students may have experienced and provide opportunities for students to understand and appreciate the global context in which they will be operating. They will include rich video assets, live face-to-face opportunities with global experts, and make good use of supporting technology (e.g. HTML5) to aid student learning. Teaching in the SEJ Academy includes a combination of: video lectures, video conferencing, forums and discussion groups, peer-to-peer networking and knowledge exchange, publishing of papers (blogs), simulations, exercises, and business mentoring

SEJ Academy offers a range of native lesson types to help structure learning content. It is the intention that we are not too prescriptive in how these are deployed within the overall programme to create a sense of variety and fun.

Assessment methods

Courses reflect the consideration given to the appropriateness of authentic versus more conventional academic assessment, and how this can engage the student. Assessment methods typically include, but are not limited to:

  • Self-marking quizzes (online exams)

  • Blogs, reviews, and presentations

  • Live feedback (video conferences)

  • Employer reviews/assessments

  • Projects, posters and practical exercises

  • Learning journals and portfolios

  • Practical exercises
